Good ESD protection is fundamentally based on knowledge. To safeguard sensitive electronics, it is crucial to understand how static electricity is generated, transferred, and controlled in the workplace.
Matronic provides comprehensive ESD protection solutions, backed by many years of experience, technical expertise, and a wide range of products and services. We help businesses prevent costly damage to electronic components through proper equipment, training, and grounding systems.
What is ESD?
ESD stands for Electrostatic Discharge, which is the sudden transfer of static electricity between objects with different electrical potentials.
Static electricity is generated through contact, friction, and separation of materials. It is present everywhere – on floors, work surfaces, chairs, clothing, packaging materials, and workplace equipment.
A person walking across a floor or working at a bench can easily accumulate charges of several thousand volts. Humans only begin to feel a discharge at around 3,000 volts, while today’s most sensitive electronic components can be damaged by as little as 20–50 volts.
